SERVICE MANAGER'S MESSAGE
Fall and Winter 02/03
Now that most new GM
vehicles come equipped with platinum spark plugs (which should last 160000kms),
most people think "tune ups" are a thing of the past. This could not be
further from the truth! There are several maintenance items which should
be addressed in order to keep your vehicle running at it's best as well
as keeping emissions to a minimum. A good rule of thumb for a check up
of tune up related items is at 50000kms. At this mileage, the fuel filter
should be replaced. A clogged fuel filter can cause lack of power, hard
starting and in extreme cases, leave you at the side of the road. The
throttle body and idle air control valve should also be cleaned at this
time. A scan test for any trouble codes, a spark output test, and an inspection
of ignition wire condition is also a good idea at this time. Simple maintenance
such as this will ensure peak power from your engine as well as clean
emissions from your tailpipe.
